Thought you might find this article about Venice to be very interesting. It's a lovely place to visit and I'm so glad we got the chance to see it on three occasions. It's a shame it's become so popular that it's really changing it as much as it is.

We were there last month for the third time and it was packed...far more than the previous two visits. We went back to the ship for a bit and came back out around six...so much better.

I love Venice and believe that there should be some restrictions imposed to change the "limits" of the number of ships/day allowed. It has become popular for a reason and if the cruise ships and tourists leave it will not "help" Venice it will hurt it.

The northeastern part of Italy is doing much better than the rest of the country because of it's manufacturing, textile and tourism industries. If you take away the tourism portion then northeastern Italy will go the way of the rest of the country.

I do believe that tourism and cruise passengers need to be controlled but not so tight it strangles the city.

I read another article a few weeks ago about the damage being caused by all these big cruise ships and the wakes they make. Even though the ships go slow when arriving and leaving port, the concern was about the constant big waves hitting the buildings.

But I hear what you're saying about the crowds. When we were first there, it definitely didn't seem as crowded as the last time. I'd have to go back and look at my pictures, but if I remember right, there were about 8 ships in port one day we were there. That's about 20,000 - 25,000 people and they all want to go to the same places making them unbelievably crowded.

It's such a beautiful, wonderful, and magical place. I do hope they put some limits on the number of ships that can visit each day as I would hate for it to lose what makes it so very special.
