Hi, 4/21/01 will be our departure date on R2 for their BARCELONA/VENICE trip (or, in our case, VENICE/BARCELONA). We would appreciate any information/advice concerning tours, restaurants, shopping, etc. If you wish, email at RDMOREU@AOL.COM Thanks!
In Venice, don't miss the tour of St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace (which usually also includes a small glass factory off of St. Mark's square). The gondola ride is worthwhile if you have time. Also, be sure to tour the Basilica San Marco (St. Mark's Basilica) and to enter the sanctuary to view the gold alterpiece (for which there is a small charge).
From Barcelona, the tour to the monastery at Montserrat is particularly worthwhile because the artwork there is absolutely magnificent. You probably also will want to see the art in the cathedral and in Gaudi's Eglesia Santa Croce (which, BTW, is not a cathedral).
I can't advise regarding other ports of call because I don't know what they are. If you stop in Monte Carlo, though, be sure to take the tour of the royal palace -- even if you have to wait!
We RCCL Splendor of the Seas 12-night cruise in May of this year. Venice was the highlight. What is your itinerary? We were only in Venice for 2 nights, and I was so surprised - it was not like I thought it would be. I would be back in a heart beat - in the spring.
We also loved Barcelona - we've been there on 3 cruises total and saw the city for the first time in May! Loved it.
I am going on this cruise May19, 2001. Roundtrip Barcelona. Can you give me any info on the ports you visited andif you took the ship tours? It is on the Legend of the Seas. Best place to stay in Barcelona? Thanks..
I posted comments on several ports of call in the Mediterranean in reply to Paul's post about the CruseMates cruise aboard MV Golden Princess in September of 2001, which calls at Istanbul, Kusadasi (Ephesus), Pireaus (Athens), Venice, Naples (Capri), Livorno (Florence, Pisa), Monte Carlo, and Barcelona. You can check that post for information on any ports shared by the two itineraries.
please reply to my email address email@example.com
because I'll probably never find this website again.
In September 2001 I'll be on Legend of the Seas for 12 nights
any ideas for a hotel with easy taxi access to the port? do you know the name of the cruise ship terminal? was the port area a bit grotty?
