Default Pre-Cruise Advice for Istanbul

We are taking the Mille Med. Legacies cruise 9/4 - 9/16 beginning in Istanbul. Celebrity is already sold out of Pre-Cruise hotel bookings. We want to arrive at least one day before embarking, maybe two. Does anyone have any advice on hotels and tours?

P.S. The Topkapi Palace is closed on Tues 9/4 for anyone that does not already know that.

We cruised out of Istanbul in November. We booked a precruise stay through travelocity.com. We stayed at a Best Western for $75 a night which was adequate, but they had some really nice first class choices too. We then booked a tour through the hotel that hit the highlights of Istanbul (Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia etc.), included lunch, a stop at a Turkish carpet store and a drive to the Asia side in the afternoon. Our front desk gave us the brochure at check in. I would take a tour, as we found Istanbul a difficult city to navigate on our own. We tried it the first day and had the hardest time finding Topaki Palace. Also, Topaki Palace is closed Tuesdays, which is why we had to do it on our own. All in all, we found Istanbul to be a very interesting place to visit. What other Med. ports are you visiting? Have a great time.

We also stayed at the Blue house .We debarked the Mille May 31st Very nice and clean hotel and it is so close to everything. If you want a guide that will show you the real turkey in Istanbul E mail me. We used Ephesus tours in Kusadasi and were very pleased They made sure we were not touring the same sights as the other 1500 people from the ship that booked ships tours.
