Istanbul Cruise Port

Looking for the general area of where the cruise port is located, on which side? Also transfers or cost from Ataturk Airport. Damn it used to be called Yesilkoy airport when I was there last, been a long while.....

Re: Istanbul Cruise Port

Charlie,

Cruise ships calling at Istanbul usually dock on the European side of the Bosphorus, just north of the Golden Horn.

I'm not persuaded that it's the same airport. Istanbul has a new airport now.

I hope that you will have time to visit some of Istanbul's attractions. If you have only half a day, take the walking tour of "Imperial Istanbul" that includes the Hippodrome, Haggia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace. The art and architecture at these sites are beyond belief.

Have a great cruise!

Norm.

Re: Istanbul Cruise Port

Taxi from airport to old city area near the Blue Mosque was $15 last December.

Some drivers don't speak English. At the airport, our driver was told where we were going by a supervisor (?).

We stayed in Istanbul for a night and it was well worth it. We walked to all the sites posted above from our hotel, the Four Seasons, which has great rates (for them) off season. The money we saved on tours for three pretty well paid for the room. A taxi to the bazaar was $6.

Enjoy!

Ataturk International Airport is the main airport and close to Yesilkoy so is the same one you remember. It does have a very new terminal in the last few years.

It takes a good 30-40 mins from there to the cruise ship docks on the European shore if there is little traffic. For peak times like morn and eve allow more time.

As with many airports, beware of the taxis there. Unfortunately many may take you on for larger than the norm fares or bring you on a larger city tour before drop off. Try to get an idea of the fare or agree this before setting off.
