Default Splendour of the Seas

Cruising Splendour on June 9th,are there others on this cruise? I am a mature adult travelling with five young adults. Just wondering if another adult is in the same catergory that might enjoy more mature company.

Pearl,
Where is the Splendour going? We were booked on her this day to sail out of Dover to Fjords of Norway, but Sept. 11, caused a cancellation.

We are doing the Western Med.(Barcelona, Rome, Florence, Malta) on Splendour in September '02. Anyone else done this itinerary? Any tips on tours, etc. We did the Scandinavian and Russia cruise on Splendour a few years ago so we are familiar with the ship but it is our first time to Itlay and Spain.

I went on the Splendour last year and am going again in July there were some really good trips but we made it on our own, it was really easy there are always cabs at the ship when you dock and we were able to do a deal with the driver as to where we wanted to go, there was a really good shore rep on the ship who we went to see every evening she was able to tell us how to go about finding our own way round this way we were able to see the places we were intrerested in .and not spend a lot of time seeing things we had seen before. If you need any more tips E,mail me.Annette

We were considering this cruise for my friend's 40th Birthday in August, but have heard that's a terrible time to do this cruise (the heat, the crowds seeing the attractions on shore). Any thoughts? Thanks, doug

Personally - I'd look at cruises in the Medit. in May, mid to late September or October. We have done several and the absolute, positively worst for weather and crowds had to be (IMHO) the cruise we took in August.

Europeans go on "holiday" in August - so it is very crowded and it is very hot. But there are those that don't mind the heat - however, we found it really too hot to be comfortable on excursions.

Would highly recommend a Medit. - we've done Hawaii, Alaska, Panama Canal and Western Carib. - and there is absolutely no comparison - Medit. wins hands down every time. Only problem - bet you can't do just one cruise (it's addictive - and there is just so darn much to see and do).

Best advice: GO FOR IT!

Dee:

Is this your first Medit. cruise? If so, a lot depends on your "comfort level", i.e., how comfortable are you making arrangements for yourself vs. going with what the cruise line has to offer.

Our first cruise, we booked all excursions thru the cruise line because we were simply not comfortable about a lot of things - specifically, it was our very first cruise (what if the ship leaves without us???!!) and to add to the mix, we did not speak another language. It was pretty daunting. It was expensive, however, I'm glad we went with the ship's excursions.

After the first cruise and getting the "lay of the land" so to speak, we became more comfortable - and more adventuresome. We are now pretty comfortable setting off on our own as soon as the ship docks. But that's not for everyone. There is some really great info on these boards regarding private tour operators. We've done private tours and found that they, for the most part, were just simply not to our liking. Our preference is doing as much as we can on our own.

Enjoy your cruise in the Medit. . . . bet it won't be your last. We've found that cruising in the Medit. has spoiled us for cruising anywhere else in the world. DARN! Just so darn much to see and do - you WILL need a vacation when you return.
