We're staying at the Hotel Danieli on the Grand Canal for one night before boarding Golden Princess.Think it might be a little more expensive than what you are looking for though.
Cheap options are practically nonexistent. You might find some hotels by
the train station more reasonable (about 30 minutes from San Marco).

Regards,
Dave

While on tour in'99 stayed @ the Splendid Suisse Hotel on San Marco. Pricing should be lower than Hotels on the Grand Canal

check out www.venere.it and look for all of the hotel options in Venice.
The links for the hotels will take you directly to the hotel's website. Sometimes just a webpage.

Thank you for the advice. Coming off a cruise ship with luggage would require a hotel with a boat landing. I am choosing between Hotel Ala, Wildner, Rialto or Albergo Cavalletti Doge Orseolo. Does anyone know them ? Reviews are one sentences.
