Default ATMs in Europe

Will I be able to use my regular ATM card without a credit card logo in Italy, Spain & France?
Thanks in advance,
Becky

No problem in Italy and Spain. Can't remember about France but I'm pretty sure it's fine. Any of the big ATM conglomerates (Cirrus, etc) works.

Thank you for clearing that up, I've been getting so many ambigious answers.

You may want to notify your bank that you'll be out of the country so they won't think your information has been stolen. They should make note of which countries you'll be visiting and when. Same thing for your credit cards.

If it doesn't work at one, try the one across the street--they are all over, and linked to different banks. You'll find one that works!
However, I seem to remember something about the PIN needing to be all numbers (no letters) which ours is, so hasn't been a problem, due to the different "keyboards" at some of the bancomats. You might want to check on this.

To amend what I wrote yesterday. The problem isn't letters: I am told that the problem with the PIN is that it should be only four digits, not more, to be effective in the Bancomats. Hope this helps.

Many European ATMs do not have letters on their keypads. Therefore your pin should be 4 numbers. Have always found one that works except in one small German town.

Just to relate our experience this June - had used our ATM card previously in Europe many times - 4 digit pin - no problems. This year in Barcelona we tried to get some extra EUros prior to sailing and had no luck at several tries, different banks. Our bank ATM card has a MasterCard logo and we were told by our bank upon returning home that MC had pulled the usage for foreigh money very abruptly due to fraud - luckily when we got aboard our ship it had an ATM - I made one last attempt prior to going to AMEX office in Barcelona to pick up some wired money and found it worked! Seems RCI ship had their ATM out of Florida not Europe and I was able to access what I needed!

Oct. 5/2004 I was at the Paris airport , I requested 500 E but I type 5000. Got msg. "illigal transaction and withheld my card. Note: Just request 250 which is the max.

I will post the number for VISA to put a hold on your card.
