Default transfers to athens airport.

hi can anyone help me please, our cruise ends in athens and we need a transfer to the airport, we have been quoted usd99.00 by our ta which is quite frankly ridiculous! Apparentely its to do with the olympics! has anyone any ideas or if anyone else is on this cruise would they be willing to plit the cost of a cab? There are two of us, we are on the QM2 03aug southampton to athens.
cheers

You shouldn't have any trouble getting a cab from Pireaus to the Airport and it shouldn't be too much, certainly not $99.00. Just make sure the cabbie turns on the meter. Haven't been in Athens since they moved the airport and got on the Euro kick but my wife's sister lives in Pireaus and as I remember the distance to the new airport is a bit more than the old one. Back then as I remember, it wasn't all that much (in Dracmas) to get to the airport. maybe like $8 us. but again the new airport is on the eastern end of the city so I'd venture a guess of maybe $20 US. Of course, Im sure everything is going to be a bit more because of the Olympics. We will be sailing the Rotterdam out of Athens on 8/30/04 heading to London ourselves and plan on using the Taxi service from the airport back to Pireaus after returning our rental.

Here's a link to the transport section of Athens International airport:

thanks very much,
we got our cruise tour brochure yesterday and it has transfers listed for $35.00 each so as thats pretty reasonable we'll go with that i think.

Yes thats not too bad either and more of a sure thing. When I called the company that handles the transfers in Athens, I got quoted some outragous amount so I politly declined and seeing how my wife is Greek, she'll be doing her usual brow beating with the cabbie over the fare I'm sure.

When I arrived at the new Athens airport last year I took a public bus from the airport to the Port of Piraeus. The charge was less than 5 euros per person. If you have extra time and are willing to ask directions you may be able to find the Piraeus bus stop when you arrive at the Port. The bus stops in front ot the high speed ferry dock. This is a 5-10 minute walk from the cruise ship dock.
