Default New port in Estonia

Tallinn port, government owned company has made the decision to build a new port for cruise vessels in Saaremaa, the biggest island of Estonia. Company will spend at least USD 5 000,000,000 for consruction works . New port will start its operations in summer 2004.

Saaremaa is the biggest island in Estonia with the territory 3000 km2. There are several atttractions which might really attractive for cruisers particularly Kuressaare castle, well prerved bishop castle from 14th century and unique Kaali meteorite crater.
Tallinn port hopes to get 30 - 40 calls of during season /so popular is Visby and the biggest Swedish isand Gotland among cruise ship companies.

This is exciting. I love Talinn and would love to spend more time there. Would cruise ships be likely to make both stops??? Or just one?

They only prepared works to build this port and of cource they try to promote new port and Saaremaa island with all its attarctions and sights. I believe Saaremaa will become a popular destination, at least so poular like Gotland is. How many calls, how many shpis will dock there ? First of all it depends on the ship companies, but government owned company Tallinn Port which operates with several ports (The Old Port close by the Old Tonw in Tallinn, where is also prier for cruise ships, Muuga port, Paldiski port and in the future Saaremaa port is expecting 30- 40 calls during summer .
Meanwhile in 2002 54 cruise ships visited Tallinn 165 times. Sales service of the port of Tallinn announced recently the cruise ships will make about 260 calls in the season 2003. This means growth of 85 calls in Tallinn.
So- Saaremaa port will not so popular in the comaprison to Tallinn, but still its will be intersting stop.
