We are looking at a Med. cruise that begins and ends in Rome. We would like a 2 night prepackage in Rome. The brochures aren't out yet. Does anyone know if the hotels they use are centrally located? We don't want to stay in the suburbs and have to be concerned with transportation into the city.
You are wise to ask this question, and I hope you get an answer. When we were on NCL a few years ago, their Rome hotel was 20 miles from the Colosseum, etc., and the public transportation system in Rome is not that great. (Think about it--every time they try to dig a new subway line, they run into some ruins. Also, the main tourist bus is called the "pickpocket express" because of all the gypsies.)
If you decide not to go with a cruise line package, we really enjoyed the Brittania hotel. It's a small hotel, lovely decor, and GREAT staff in a good location (close to the Spanish Steps and close to a lot of other things). It's www.venere.it/roma/britannia. If you haven't been to this area and want some other info, I'll be glad to share our experiences. We cruised from Rome (Civitavecchia) twice and stayed in Rome three times. It's wonderful, and I hope you're going to Venice too!
