We are going to be leaving on a cruise this summer from Venice on the Star Princess. We will be arriving at the airport the day before. Any suggestions for reasonably-priced hotels that offer us a relatively easy way to get to the port? Thank you!
You're staying for one night in one of the most amazing and unique cities in the world. This is not the time to "cheap out." Find a good hotel as close to St. Mark's Square (San Marco) as possible, pay the price, and consider it a good investment in an opportunity to see a remarkable place that you could never see as well by camping out in a cheaper hotel in Mestre or some other suburb.
One such hotel is the Osteria del Doge, just steps off the square. There are others. Getting to the ship from anywhere in the city is no particular problem.
Just being able to cruise under Rialto Bridge at night in a water bus instead of scrambing for a train to your cheaper digs is worth the additional room rate.
Again, this is not just another city, and you are well advised to make the most of it, especially if you don't plan on coming back for an extended stay.
Bruce- We are doing the same trip on 7/27 but last Jan. my mother & I stayed in a wonderful little hotel (29 rooms) near the Rialto Bridge. Affordable, clean and very centrally located. It is called the Malibran and you can reach them at firstname.lastname@example.org. Has a little restaurant and nice breakfast included.
