My family and I (a total of 8 people) are on the Galaxy for the Mediterranean sailing on 5/31. We're trying to figure out what to do in Mykonos. Celebrity is only offering one excursion there - 'Ancient Delos'. Is that worth doing? How close to town is the port? Can we walk there or do we need a taxi or tour? Is there somewhere else to get a tour? What is worth seeing?
The town is very beautiful with small quaint winding streets to explore and many shops cafes to look at. The port is about 30 mins walk away but it is not a good road to walk on. I would get a taxi or the shuttle bus into town and enjoy exploring.
My husband and I are on the same cruise. We went to Mykonos two years ago and really enjoyed it. The town is an easy walk from the pier and bus service is available for the various beaches. It is one of those islands that you can just relax and enjoy some wine or liquer at a cafe if you so choose.
On our last cruise, our ship actually docked at Delos. The entire island is ruins. ..very easy to imagine what it would have been like way back when. It was pretty much a walking tour for those who got off the ship and disappointing for some as the ruins are not particularly well-preserved. We didn't get off as we could see everything pretty clearly with binoculars. I would not pay for a tour unless antiquities is your thing.
Twenty-five days and counting!
well, there are a few "clothes optional" beaches that you can go too !!! Europeans are very comfortable about the no clothes thing so you can always tell an American because we have a tendency to "look". Mykonos and Santorini are two of the most beautiful islands in the world (to me).. You'll really enjoy it no matter what you do. I have been there on a cruise ship 5 times and decided this year to spend 4 days there in june with my girlfriend, so I'll just miss you but I won't miss the beaches (smile)
