Default transfers from Rome to the port of Chitavecchia

We are going on the Galaxy this summer and need to reach the port on July25th. We are flying into Rome the day before and I have booked a room at the Excelsior hotel. I did not buy a package from the cruise line because my stay is free- I used Starwood points. Can anyone make a suggestion on how to get to the port on July 25th. My husbnad is willing to rent a car, however the prices are high, and it seems like a real pain. I see ads for shuttle service, but I wonder at the reliablitly. If anyone has had a similar experience, I would appreciate your input!
THANKS!

i think there would be a shuttle bus from the port to rome, there usually is. last time we went we didnt leave ship and the time before we went on an excursion. try contacting celebrity cruise line or hotel (one of them should know)and find out. i wish i could help more.

We used Max Leotta for transfer from the airport to our hotel and from the hotel to the port the following day. It was a lot easier and comfortable than a bus or train. His email is: maxleotta@tiscali,it. I don't remember his price, but I think it was about 100 Euro.

HEY KAREN,
I AM DOING THE LIBERTY IN OCTOBER OUT OF ROME AND WE HAVE FOUND OUT THAT ITS CHEAPER AND FASTER TOI RIDE THE TRAIN, THEY SAY IF YOU TRAVEL ON THE ROADS IT WILL TAKE YOU LONGER DUE TO TRAFFIC, IT BREAKS OUT TO LIKE UNDER 20.00 APIECE TO TAKE TRAIN, WHEN YOU GET TO CHEHVALLIA(SP) THEY HAVE TRANSPORT FROM THERE TO THE PIER FOR A COUPLE BUCKS EACH.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE A BUNCH OF INFO ON THE ROME , WE HAVE A THREAD AT CRUISE CRITIC AND WE ALL HAVE SOME GREAT INFO ON IT,,WE ARE SAILING ON THE NEW CARNIVAL LIBERTY 16 DAY TRANSATLANTIC FROM ROME TO FORT LAUDERDALE.

I was told that there are no taxis available in Chitavecchia and that the train station is a mile away from the boat. Perhaps the Liberty will be offering a shuttle for their cruisers, however I do not think that Celebrity will. I don't know about you, but I travel like Gunga Din and cannot navigate a mile with my luggage!
Thanks,
Karen

You can get a train direct from Rome to CIVITAVECCHIA.

I would recommend a taxi from your Hotel to the main station (reasonable price). The train journey is about 45 mins to Civitavecchia and then take a taxi from the station to Civitavecchia port about another 15 -20 minutes (it depends on ship berth)

Taxis, car rentals are rip off,.from Rome to port in todays exchange rate you could be nearly $200 out. Plus you are tired from travelling, you dont want to be driving on Italian roads.

Trains are good that is your best option, plus you get a free tour of Italy for nearly an hour.

Have a good one I love the Galaxy

David

We were on the Galaxy the first week of June. We took the train and found there were numerous shuttle buses to the ship. Met several people who were on the same ship and enjoyed their company the whole cruise.

When we did this cruise we took the train from Rome to the port and there are shuttle taxis right outside the train station that will take you to the ship was very inexpensive. Everyone that took the ships transfers were very upset because the ride took a long time and the traffic was horrible. Train ride was easy and shuttle was waiting for us.
