Default Is Europe safe to travel???

My husband and I are considering cruising in the Mediterranean in Oct on the Liberty...However, I'm a little concerned about the recent bombing in Spain.... Can anyone tell me if they've been to Europe lately and did you feel it was safe??? Thanks for your input...

I did a land trip in Italy in October and felt very safe. We drove all over, had to ask directions at night, got lost in small towns, went many places and felt perfectly safe.

We flew into Rome via London and home from Milan via London to Chicago. We drove from Umbertide to Milan, we were in Florence, Sienna, Adriatic coast, Asissi, Perugia,
Cortona, Pisa, all over the place for 18 days.

I think its just like being anywhere, you have to be aware of your surroundings and not be a target. Seeing some people travel, I think they are an accident waiting for a place to happen.

We did not carry lots of cash, traveler checks are inconvenient having to hunt for places to take them or cash them. I went to the ATMs regularly to get Euros. ATMs are all over and everyone uses them. My Visa debit card worked great and when I got home I discovered the exchange rate was very fair, no extra charges.

My husband and I did a road trip with another couple in September. Flew into Milan, then to Lake Como, Florence, Tuscan countryside, Portofino, back to Milan. We had a great time, never nervous about a thing.

You'd be hard pressed to find anyplace on earth that you wouldn't be "a little" concerned about. I live a few miles from the Pentagon and I'm a little concerned that a plane flew into it on 9/11, but I haven't sold my house.

Point is, you need to live your life. I think you should take your cruise.

You should feel very safe over there. We lived in Germany for 4 years and just moved back to the states. We traveled everywhere over there. To be totally honest with you I felt safer there then I do here in NY.

“Is Europe safe to travel???”

Yes, of course. I live in Europe and travel regularly (different countries like Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece - just to name a few). I never had a problem. But I also never had a problem in other places (Canada, the US, New Zealand).

Cruising in Europe is like cruising anywhere. We cruised the Med in the fall, visiting 3 ports in Spain & there wasn't one moment of apprehension. The ports of call are just wonderful. We have had 3 Med cruises & have spent many wonderful vacations in Italy & France with our family, & if there was any danger, we won't subject them to it. You take the same precautions that you do visiting a new place. Just go with an open mind & enjoy. You will love it!!!

We went on a cruise to the Med. just about 3 weeks prior to 9/11/01. One of our ports was Alexandria, Egypt and from there we visited the Cairo Museum, the Sphinx and Pyramids. Except for the heavily armed escort we never felt that we were in danger. Of course the mini-bus drove at about 100 mph...now that was exciting! We wouldn't have missed it for the world and would do it again in a heartbeat! Have a great time!
