No contest !,take the Amalfi Drive everytime.Capri gets overcrowded with everyone hereded into the small tourist town of Anacapri. If you get the chance take a Tour of Pompei and the Amalfi Coast with Salvatore or Adriano of Driveamalfi at firstname.lastname@example.org.The towns of Positano and Ravello are dreamy
Ah.. now I can help you.... we have elected to go to Capri for the day....couple of reasons....I get car sick on twisty roads...and that one has to be the worst. We would have completed three days straight of 8 - 10 hour tours so we thought we'd just have a relaxing day on Capri and unwind a little from Villefranche, Florence and Rome. A lot of people warned us about crowds, but I don't think October should be that bad.
Glad were on the same ship....we have a great roll call going on over on Cruise Critic.
We spent a week along the Amalfi Coast last month (not a cruise), and visited Capri for a day. Hands down Amalfi and Positano win. Capri is a pretty island, but it's filled with designer stores that you'd find at home and cheap souvenir stores. It's a nice way to spend a day, but Amalfi and Positano offer far more. No contest in our view.
We are going on the June 8 Celeb Millenium and are renting a private tour. I have been to these destinations a few times over the last 30 years and from my memory the following:
Pompeii a must, Sorrento cute, Amalfi Coast ride and the view from the ship is spectacular. Going to Capri is a hoot especially for the kids on the hydrofoil, but it is another town/island and quite touristy and crowded. I have been to the Blue Grotto 1 time which was wonderful, but if you get sea sick, pick another trip! If the weather is not terrific, you will not get to get into the Blue Grotto. We have decided since we have lots of kids with us, since we will be seeing Mykonos and Santorini, and on a ship for 12 days, to skip Capri and do Sorrento, Positano and Ravello instead!
