Has anyone toured the Cote d'Azur by train? I'd like to see the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Saint Jean-Cap Ferrat and heard you can get there by train (which is only 5 minutes from the dock). I'd appreciate anyone's train experience at this port. thanks.
We used the train there a couple of years ago. From Villefranche to Monte Carlo.
Easy walk from the dock to the station - up a ffew steps at the end of the dock BUT heres a story.
One of the Americans on our trip got robbed by someone running up the steps, and another apparently got robbed on the platform.
That said - we had no hassles and you really just need to be aware anywhere you go.
It was an easy ride to Monte Carlo and we didnt wait long - but I cant comment about anywhere else.
However having also done Nice to Monte Carlo by bus I have to say the bus wins hands down. For the views. By train there are a lot of tunnels.
The bus service seems pretty good on the Cote d'Azur too.
For buses, click on Se Deplecer, then Route. Basse Corniche is the lower/sea side road that goes to Eze sur Mer. Moyenne Corniche is the middle road that goes through Eze village. This map is just terrific. Visiter-Circuit also takes you along a walking tour. The eyeballs on the map are 360 degree views.
