mudley,

anybody have a good recommendation for a reasonable hotel with non smoking rooms in a good location for walking to see the sights?

I was very pleased with the Crown Plaza St. Peter's.

That said, I highly recommend booking your hotel through your cruise line for three reasons.

>> 1. The cruise lines get special rates based on volume of business and make their profit on the difference between the discount and the regular rates that you can get, so it probably won't cost you any more.

>> 2. The cruise line's hotel package will include the transfer from your hotel in Roma to Civitavecchia or vice versa. Trust me -- the cruise line's transfer won't be any more expensive than your own transportation!

>> 3. The cruise line also will will have English-speaking staff at a hospitality desk in the hotel lobby to assist you with any difficulties that may arise. These staff also coordinate optional tours if you wish to take advantage of them. Of course, you are also free to explore on your own.

Have a great cruise!

Norm.

Hotel Saint Anna
Borgo PIO
Just a couple of blocks from Vatican City, nice places to eat next door and free breakfast in the courtyard each morning.

Norm, not true with my Princess cruises. They rape you on the hotel. I got the exact same hotel and room cat for 1/3 the price in London.
