I am going on the Millennium May 3rd for a 10 day cruise and I am wondering if I even need to pack shorts.
Does anyone out there know what the weather is like early spring in Europe?
May is a great time of year to go to the Mediterranean! The weather should be ideal for sightseeing at that time of year -- warm enough for sightseeing in shirtsleeves but not oppressively hot.
I would bring one or two pairs of shorts to wear aboard ship during the days at sea. Bear in mind that most shore excursions visit houses of worship that have both significant art and architecture and very strict dress codes that forbid shorts, so you generally will not be able to wear shorts when going ashore.
The dress codes on the shore excursions generally require clothing that completely covers the shoulders, the knees, and everything in between, and additionally ladies must cover their heads with hats or scarves or whatever while inside the houses of worship. For gents, golf shirts and slacks are fine. For ladies, the best option probably is a top with sleeves (and no "cleavage!") and a skirt cut below the knee.
