We are going to take the train. It runs frequently and is cost effective.

We travel lightly, so the short walk from the station to the pier will only whet our appetite for dinner...!!

If you are staying in a hotel in Roma, your most seemless option will be the cruise line's transfer service. You'll have to be at the designated pickup point at the designated time, but it will take you and your luggage right to the pier so you won't have to deal with luggage on the train and you won't have to take a taxi from the train to the pier. (No, you really don't want to walk this with luggage!)

If you are arriving at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO), which actually is in the city of Fiumicino, on embarkation day, you don't want go into Roma and back. In this case, your best option would be either the cruise line's transfer service or a taxi depending upon the number of people in your party.

Norm.
