We will be touring the Med. on the Prinsendam starting 10/2/08. Any recommendations for private tour companies would be appreciated. We will be covering most of the Med. Hoping to hear from all you experienced travelers.
ROMEINLIMO is the one to go with - friendly, knowledgible and competent drivers who speak English for us was great. We used them for Rome, Naples and Florence/Pisa and saw more with them than the tour groups off the ship did. www.romeinlimo.com
I just came back from a Mediterranean cruise and the best decision we made was to book Sorrento Top Car (www.sorrentotopcar.com Giulia at Sorrento Top Car was knowledgeable, professional and prompt to respond to all of our questions. We were a group of 6, and used them for the stops in Naples. The drivers were friendly and knowledgeable and the cars were great, new models. DON'T MISS THE AMALFI COAST DRIVE!!!! Our driver was very knowledgeable and took us to Ravello for lunch. I have never seen anything as beautiful as the Amalfi Coast drive. It was a great experience and the cost was not bad, it was a bargain, compared to what the cruise line charged. Some in our table that booked through the cruise line were not at all happy with how expensive it was and how many people were in their party. Sorrento Top Car was truly private (just us) and made our trip that much better. I highly recommend them!

Can you give me an idea of cost for the tour?
Did you have to pay upfront or at the end of the tour?
Rome In Limo is the way to go.
Carlo and Duman are the best (and Laura in Florence).
We did tours in Naples (Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano), Florence, and two while staying in Rome. We felt like family.
Rome in Limo knows the areas and are fun to spend the day with.
They made our anniversary so special by taking us to a private winery outside of Rome and having a wonderful lunch there, served by the owner.
We will always remember what a great time we had. www.romeinlimo.com is the way to go.
Jany in the office will take good care of you.
Edit: Just learned that Carlo has opened his own company called www.drivearounditaly.com
He is very funny and we loved him, so either one would be great!
Hi Rose. We booked tours in Ephesus and Istanbul with Ekol tours based on recommendations we received. In Athens, we booked with Paul from Athens Taxi, again based on recommendations received. In all three places, we were looking for Christian based tours with an emphasis on historical and biblical perspectives. Your cruise itinerary sounds wonderful!
We were in Italy last November
We joined a family of four from our roll call for a tour with Alfonso from the Sorrentosilverstar
(www.sorrentosilverstar.com) . What a great day! He was waiting for us at the dock and we headed for Pompeii. We arrived just as it was opening. We agreed as a group to spend just 2 hours there so we could spend more time at other places during the day. Pompeii is the kind of place that you could spend the entire day, but 2 hours was plenty and we had so many other things we wanted to see and do. The drive along the Amalfi Coast was beautiful. We stopped in several small towns as well as Amalfi. I would recommend Alfonso to anyone looking for a guide/driver in Naples.Since none of us had a restaurant in mind for lunch we had Alfonso suggest one for us. What a treat! He took us to a little restaurant at the top of a winding street. They had an ala carte menu and a sampler type menu that was served family style. Two of the people in our group got pizza and rest of us decided to have the sampler menu. I have never seen so much food in my life and it was all delicious. They brought us pitchers of wine and then lemoncello with dessert.
