We just came back from a cruise that went to Portugal, Spain, and Italy. The ship does have currency exchange the rate is okay not great. However, the best rate we got was by using our ATM card. Also I hear that captiol one credit card has the best transaction rate if you are making purchases with a credit card. I hope that helps.

We always try & use a 'non charging' credit or debit card when in the Baltics as there are so many different currencies it becomes a real nuisance changing them every day. There are Danish Krone, Norwegian Krone, Swedish Krona, Lithuanian Lita, and USD for Russia - I'm sure I've missed some, but you get the idea.

Mastercard & Visa are the main cards accepted in Europe, Amex is less recognised, and may carry additional charges.

I hope this is of some help, it's not great news, but at least you can think ahead.

Have a great cruise,

Alan & Katrina

I used my debit card on my cruise to Europe last year. I was in Italy and France last week and also used my debit card. The excange rate was ok, and my bank charged me $1.50. Hope this helps. I think you may get a better rate using a debit card verses using the ships exchange rate
