Default Istanbul

Can anyone tell me if Euros or US cash was accepted in Turkey?
I know they have the "new Lira" but I am wondering if we could get by on an overnight in Istanbul without having to get the Liras.
Thanks

Shops will take euros & dollars, but I believe the Haj Sophia only takes T. Lira along with museums.

Euros and UDS $ and Canadian Dollars are accepted all over in Turkey.
Museums only do accept YTL (Turkish Liras) but credit card can be used.
There are ATM s all over if you need YTL.

The stores will take dollars, but change back in Liras. I did carry Liras as I used the metro and ferry system. Very old, very unique place.

Default Turkish money

I just got back from a cruise with Istanbul. They will accept US dollars, Euros, or Liras.

Euros and US Dollars or main credit cards can always be used for mid to large purchases but you will need a small amount of Turkish Lira for entrance fees, small souvenirs, a bottle of water and the like. You can just change some at an ATM on the day easily.

Euros and/or US$ cash are widely accepted in touristy areas. There are so many ATMs if you happen to need Turkish Liras. Current exchange rate is 1.55 for 1 $.
