Default Cruise from U.S. to Italy

Hello to all,

We are thinking of a cruise to Rome, Venice etc. We would like to catch the ship from Fla., New York, Baltimore etc. and cross the Atlantic to Rome, Venice etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Such trips exist in the spring when cruise lines are repositioning ships from winter in the Caribbean to summer in Europe.

Contact an experienced cruise travel agent and you'll have plenty of options.

In the fall the reverse trips - Europe to the US - are available. I prefer those because you get all those 25 hr travel days coming back east to west.

Default Repositioning Cruise to Rome

Hi Gordon,

I am 59 male, retired, married but wife has to work. She will join me in Italy in June 2009. I am looking to share a cabin with someone from USA to Rome leaving in April or May. I have a home in Italy between Rome and Naples. I have a rental car in Italy ready when we arrive. You can extend your vacation and tour Rome/Naples and the Amalfi Coast with me while our home base will be my home. I will drive you to whichever airport you want when you depart. Please email with any questions. I am looking at any of the cruises listed below.

We did the Cruisemates Group cruise from Miami to Rome it was great fun. We even had a port call in St. Maarten. I agree with Kuki it is a bummer losing an hour a day during the crossing, but I caught a cold so I was in bed anyway. My hubby and I took the train from Rome to Venice and Venice was my favorite italian city. I would look for a cruise that ends in Venice and spend a extra time there.
If you do the TA to Flordia here is one that look good. This in on the Ruby Princess, it leaves from Venice. This is in Oct 09.

We are considering a transatlantic cruise in the spring from USA to Europe. I have heard from several of you that is not the best as you are exhausted when you get there. This would be a first for us. Is the exhaustion due to the time changes or having too much fun on the ship?
Thank you

I would have to say I wasn't exhausted in fact I was more rested then flying over and having jet lag plus losing all those hours at once. The thought behind going Italy to USA is more time on the cruise ship, you gain 5 hours of cruise time going in that direction. Going USA to Italy you lose 5 hours of cruise time. Every hour counts.

I went from Miami to Rome (civitavecchia), Italy and loved it. Civitavecchia is about an hour and a half from Rome so you do need to make arrangements to get to your roman hotel. I liked Venice better and the ship docks much closer to the city (the fish). The fish (main part of Venice) does not allow cars so pack good walking shoes and get a Venice card to use the water buses.

Well look at that Cruisemates is doing a cruise just like the one I suggested. In fact I think it is the one I suggested. If I could afford to cross again I would book this cruise.
