Default Questions about self tours in the med

Hello,
My husband and I are taking a cruise in April on the Noordam. We are going to the following ports and I was wondering if any of you could give me suggestions on what to see as well as if the ship docks close enough to town to walk or take a taxi to do sightseeing.

I appreciate all feedback.

Portimao, Portugal is in the Algarve I'm so jealous I have always wanted to go there. The Algarve has wonderful beaches (I'm told). Here is a good link to information.

The yellow 5 on this map is the main beach Praia da Rocha. This is information on this beach resort (it's near the Marina.

i'll give suggestions for what i know about~
Barcelona, Spain ~ http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com fabulous website for info

Monte Carlo, Monaco ~we just walked around. you can take a taxi/bus/train (if it's not on strike) to a lot of places.

Civitavecchia (Rome) ~ see all the big touristy things if you are able. the Sistine Chapel, Vatican, Coliseum, etc. a lot of people on this board have recommended http://www.romeinlimo.com

Santorini, Greece ~i could seriously just go sit at the top of Santorini and be happy. this is my favorite place in the whole world~it's beautiful. you can rent a car or ATVs and drive all over, and go see the black beaches

Kusadasi (Ephesus) Turkey~we took a tour of Ephesus and saw the Grand Bazaar. Kusadasi is a pretty neat town

Piraeus, Greece~Acropolis. you can do it through the cruiseline or they have taxis outside with pricing. be careful~sometimes they try to charge differently

and of course, you can always google these places for ideas. happy sailing~i'm so jealous you're going to Santorini!

Ladies you all ROCK!!!!

My husband has been to quite a few of these places before but it is my first time and yes, I am excited as can be! My husband mostly took the cruise tours previously but we have found that we enjoy private tours or doing things on our own much more. I have been doing quite a bit of research but to be honest, you ladies have given me much better information than I had found previously. Thank you all so very much.

Thanks Lulu! I emailed the dept. of tourism from the website you suggested and was able to find out that the cost is $1 euro each way and you were certianly correct on the bus number. I have found so much great information from the sites you ladies have sent me!

If anyone has any more tips please let me know.
