Default Barcelona--disembarkation question

We are traveling on Ruby Princess this summer, with cruise ending in Barcelona on 7/16. The itinerary says we arrive in Barcelona at 5am. We've done a lot of cruises in the past, but never one that arrives that early. What is the typical time for getting off the ship? I ask because that is our one day to see Barcelona before returning to U.S. on 7/17 and I'm trying to figure out if we have time to do a full-day tour or only an afternoon tour. Thanks.

Obviously, it depends on what time your flight from Barcelona is..Your problem is what to do with your luggage while you tour Barcelona. You must mean just a morning tour.. there is so much to see in Barcelona that it would be a shame to miss at least La Rambla, the 200 year old market, the buildings in the Gaudi influence..etc..then again you could hiire a guide to pick you up at the ship with your luggage and drive y ou around for a while getting the highlights and then drop you off at the airort.

It will make your debarkation smooth as many will choose to get off early. If I recall everyone was off well before 10:00 a.m. We loved Barcelona, I have a review on my blog if your interested.

Hi Jamief, the large spread of times in & out of Barcelona is due to the smallness of the port, compared o the large number of ships (cruise, cargo & ferries), so the pilots are kept busy all day long & the ships normally given hourly slots for arrival (see Autoritat Portuaria de Barcelona )

You will normally be able to leave the ship from around 09:00 - but this depends entirely on the unloading of luggage, so a 5 a.m. slot is far better than say 8 a.m. and you should have no problems from that point.

The main thing to think about is where you will be storing yuor luggage during the day, if you are staying in a hotel, they may not want you leaving luggage untiil your room is ready & this may be mid-afternoon, so check with them that you can leave your luggage somewhere safe if the room is not ready.

Hope this helps, and have a great time,

Alan & Katrina

That puts a different light on it...staying overnight...The hotel we use The Continental on LaRambla has a luggage room and you can leave your luggage there. What I would suggest is that you have your carry on bag filled with items you will need for a few days..To get the maximum out of Barcelona we have through the people on the boards found a guide who picks us up at the airport and drops us off at The Continental and then takes us on a tour wherever and for as long as we want.. Best of all picks us up at the hotel and takes us to the ship... for you would be the airport.. We have spent pre-cruise on various ships.. four nights in Barcelona and it still amazes us..If you would like the name of the guide.. parrotmom@verizon.net
