Default Flights Back!

I'm trying to figure the cost to pay for a friend to go with me on a cruise to Europe and then Fly her back. I'm shocked at the difference in price. If I want to fly from here in Austin to Frankfurt, I can find flights around $628 counting taxes and fees. But if I reverse that on the same date. The Price jumps up to over $2000 and $3000?!! I've tried searching on all kinds of sites and most all of them are American sites, I can't even find European travel sites to see if they pose a different price. Surely everyone in Europe isn't paying such high costs to fly to America? What am I doing wrong?

Flights from Europe to USA can be anything from 50% tp 100% higher. It always has been unless there is a special promotion.

Hi there, one-way tickets from Europe have always been expensive as they are expected to be used by business travellers who don't have a choice but to pay.

For example a BA flight one way is $2412 but if you had a return wrapped around a weekend, the price is $920

Pre 911 the airlines would let you buy a return ticket & thrown the return portion in the bin, but I'm not sure if they let you do that any more.

Another apsect is time of year, if you hit the European holiday season then the prices rise quicker than the planes.

Would it be cheaper to fly via another location e.g. Amsterdam (Schiphol), London (Heathrow or Gatwick) or any of the US gateways?

Or maybe a voyage back on the QM2 is called for
