We are taking a Carnival cruise (W. Caribbean) and would like to take our young children snorkeling in Grand Cayman or Cozumel. Has anyone done any snorkeling excursions with their kids? Which ones? Is it difficult to pull it off? Also, does the snorkeling vest keep them afloat pretty well or do you need to hold on to them? Our kids are 4, 7, and 9 and are decent swimmers. Thanks!
I would definately look into snorkeling with the Sting Rays in Grand Cayman, its an excersion not to miss and the kids love it as well. I too always use the vest, and yes it works very well, I can actually snorkel for hours without stopping when I wear one, they are always offered on tours. Not sure what the age limit is, so check on that when you get your list of excersions.
I also did the Grand cayman stingray tour with my two kids ages 8 and 12, and they just loved it! but there were a lot of younger kids on our trip, 4,5, and 6 maybe and they were just terrified. It was probably the bravest thing I myself have ever done, these fish are huge up close, but please don't push the little ones into doing this trip, as exc iting as it is for the adults and pre-teens I would not recommend it for your two youngest. If you take the 65 foot catamaran trip out of the Hyatt you can all enjoy the boat ride and one of you could take the 9 year old into the water and the other could just watch with the younger two onboard. You can see everything from the boat. For snorkeling in general , for the younger ones sometimes it's easier to just give them a mask and no snorkel and they can just come up for air every minute, that's what mine did until they were about 9 years old .
