Default renaissance with kids

I've just read that Renaissance cruises is allowing children to begin sailing this winter. I found a great itinerary and was wondering if anyone has booked with them with kids for February school vacation on the R8? Do you know if they will be offering a kids program or if any changes at all will be made to accommodate kids? I love the fact that they will be staying for two nights at a resort in Dominican Republic. Any info would be appreciated.

I'm the family cruise editor at CruiseMates.com and will gladly query Renaissance as to whether they will be offering any children's programs now that they are allowing kids on board. Someone I know was recently on a Renaissance cruise and said that there was a lot of anti-children sentiment on board on behalf of the passengers -- they were not supportive of the line's move to allow kids on board. That said, you may not find the kind of positive family atmosphere you are looking for unless your kids are older and don't need much entertainment.
I will get back to you once I hear from Renaissance.

I spoke with the p.r. rep at Renaissance and while kids are allowed on their ships, there will not be any kids' program. The only amenity they are offering families is private babysitting. Otherwise, you're pretty much on your own.
I know I'd feel much more comfortable bringing my 8 year old daughter (who's an experienced cruiser) on a different line which is more welcoming to kids.
Hope this is helpful,
Luisa

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll stick with Celebrity and try to get to Domincan Republic some other time.

I think your kids will be much happier on Celebrity. Note that Celebrity's program is seasonal (offered on major holiday weeks and summer) so make sure it's running when you plan to cruise.
Smooth sailing!
