I read your "Back to the Beach" article and am interested in more info on Rex Halcyon Cove in Antigua. Last cruise we took my 14 month old to Miller's By the Sea in Antigua. It was okay, but the beach wasn't the cleanest. We are looking for a nicer, fanily friendly beach. Where is the Halcyon Cove (which beach)? How far from port? Do you need to reserve a day pass or can you just walk on the beach? Can you rent chairs/umbrellas? Can you use hotel facilities (restrooms, restaurants)? Is it a nice beach? My daughter will be 2 on this trip and it will be her 3rd cruise. Thanks!!!
Actually we have gone to Halcyon Cove twice when we cruised to Antigua -- that's how much we liked it! We were just there last June with my 8 year old and infant son and it was beautiful once again. I can't remember the exact cab fare but it was probably under $20 each way. There is a cab stand there to call a cab back to the port at the end of the day (perhaps a 20 minute ride or so). You can use the restaurant (both times we stayed for lunch which we ate outside) and bathroom facilities. It's very a family friendly, low key, calm beach -- there are watersports if interested. Someone will come up to you that works there and ask you to pay a nominal fee to use the beach chairs. There are huts built into the sand to make shade so get there in the morning to snag one.
Just thinking about Halcyon Cove makes me wish I were there now!
Let me know how you liked it!
