traveling with a child

Does anyone know if the price of a cruise is cheaper for a child under 3. I know that a third or fourth person in the same room is cheaper. I guess I am asking is it even a lower price if the child is under 3? Thanks....

Depends on the cruise line. I think Costa offers deals - like $99 for children under 12 maybe? Carnival I think also has discounted rates for kids. I think qulify for "infant" status on most cruise lines, which I believe is even cheaper, they must be between 4 and 24 months of age....

I'm the family cruise editor here. Actually, I'll be writing an article on this site this fall on rates for kids on cruise ships. In the meantime, there are a few lines which offer kids under two years for free, such as NCL. Most others charge kids over two either the 3rd/4th berth rate or a discounted 3rd/4th rate. Costa does offer very good deals for kids usually $199 to $299 during its winter Caribbean season.
