8 year old (only) child

My husband and I are taking our 8 year old with us (for the first time) on a RC cruise in August. We would definitely like some alone time together. Can anyone tell me what the "camp" schedule is? Does it differ each day? Does it go into the evening hours? Also, is there a website (or message board) where I can find other families going on this cruise. I would love for my daughter to have a "buddy" on the cruise.

My 7 yr old daughter and I went on the RCCL Rhapsody in June 03...she had such a blast in the kids area that I had to force her to spend time with me! The staff were so friendly and fun and knew just what to do so noone felt left out. By the end of the trip she had made many friends that she still writes. This really helped since I was concerned if I would get any alone time since I was a single parent but she absolutely loved going to the kids area at night while I did all the shows. I even got back off in Key West and went to Margaritaville while she went to her "pajama/pizza party". The best part was when they dressed up like pirates and "took over the ship". Also, the photographer would take periodic photos of the kids so eventhough I wasnt with her, I dont felt like I missed out on her experience..photos are pricey, but well worth it.

Going by memory, I do believe they can stay in there until 10:00 and then afterwards its a $5.00 hr charge until 1:00, but Im not sure...she only stayed in there a few times past the cutoff time, but usually never wanted ot leave.

We're going again in June 04...both of us cant wait.

My daughter was an only child until she was 8 years old and she loved going on cruises because she got to meet other kids through the youth program. The youth programs usually open from 9-12, 2-5, and 7 to 10. After 10 p.m. you pay an hourly fee for group babysitting. This gives you plenty of time together and apart. My daughter has been on 15 cruises and she has deemed that RCI has the best youth program. You'll have a great time!
