Balcony with kids?
I am going on a cruise with my kids. They are 6 and 9 I got a GREAT deal with a cabin with a Balcony. Will the kids be safe with a Balcony? On Rccl Expolere of the seas?

Re: Balcony with kids?
As one mom to another - here's my opinion. My family had a balcony room last spring on voyager. Loved the room!! It wasn't until we got home when I found out that my 12 year old daughter told me she was sitting on the rails of the balcony! Then I heard that when my son (14) was hanging out with friends he had made on the ship, they were getting a little dangerous with the rails. It all comes down to - the ship is safe if you trust your children. I plan to give mine a long speech before this years trip.

Re: Balcony with kids?
I have nightmares about my son falling overboard right before a cruise (we get balconies too). Id love to leave the door open at night while were sailing, but am too afraid to do so. Hes only 2, so laying down the law wont work. We keep the door locked unless we are out there (thankfully he hasnt figured out the lock yet). The only time hes allowed out there is when we are with him. We move the furniture as far away as possible too, and sit in it. With older kids, Id tell them up front the dangers involved. You know your own kids. If theyre risk takers, I wouldnt allow them out there without you.

Re: Balcony with kids?
It's pretty tough for a younger kid to open the balcony doors -- they're pretty heavy.
THe Explorer of the Seas is a great ship for families -- you'll have a great time. Best, Luisa Frey Gaynor Family Cruise Editor |

Re: Balcony with kids?
That's my biggest fear. Mine is or will be 11 when we plan to go again. But she is too curious for words. Do I stress over the balcony or stay safe with an ocean view?

Re: Balcony with kids?
Ocean views are great, however not if you're going to stress over it. I have a 10 year old and have no qualms about cruising in a balcony room with her. However, you know your child best and it should be your call.

Re: Re: Balcony with kids?
We did AOS out of San Juan last year and booked balcony cabins. My youngest is 17 years old and she had a hard time opening the balcony door sometimes. They are extremely heavy doors. I don't think I would leave the door open at night with a small child in the room but you will enjoy the balcony. That is the only way we will cruise now is a balcony cabin.

Re: Balcony with kids?
Cool I have a 6 y/o and a 9 y/o so I should be ok?
|
Re: Balcony with kids?
No problem. Did this with 4-9 yr olds on Voyager of the Seas. Yes, the ocean is right there about 5 stories below, but the rail is high and there is an angled plexiglass shield as well.
