Default Sail & Sign - tipping and kids

My husband and I have only been on one cruise, and I remember that Carnival charged a mandatory charge to our Sail & Sign card right up front for purchases, etc. We were wondering if they do this per room or per person?
We are taking a family cruise and want to be sure we aren't going to be charged ~300 per PERSON because we have 6 people.
Also in regards to tipping, does the $10 per day per person 'recommended' amount include children?
We also want to be sure we have enough to tip the Camp Carnival counselors. Are they tipped directly by us, or does that come out of our Sail & Sign also?

Yes, the tips are per person, per day and most likely include the kids. We've always tipped the regular amount for the kids too, in most cases its just as much work for the staff if not more.

Tips are for everyone - age doesn't make a difference.

Thanks for the replies. We called Carnival and were told that we can opt to have one Sail & Sign card per room, and that tips are per person, which is fine.
But, they said that Camp Carnival counselors are not included in the tipping. Does anyone know if it is ok to tip the counselors directly?

Hi Sarah,
Yes, you'd tip the camp councelors directly.

Thanks, Donna.
I guess it's ok to just hand them cash? What is a reasonable amount to tip? We have one young child, age 3, who would use the Camp the most.

Yes, I hand them cash on the last day that they split amongst themselves. Hard to say how much...I usually tip around $40/$50 for one child per cruise.
Smooth sailing,

I think Carnival will give you extra gratuity envelopes, that's what I've used to tip the Camp Carnival counselors. I usually give them $45-50 per child.

We returned from our cruise last week. We ended up not tipping Camp Carnival because we never used it! Not because it's not a good program, but our kiddos just weren't interested.

And the previous poster is correct, we did receive extra gratutiy envelopes.
