We are going on the Mariner of the Sea,
Last year we went with a group from church (32). All adults. This year it will just be my husband, our 11 year old daughter, and myself. How is seating done? It would be nice to be with another nice family about my daughters age, but what if we were seated with someone not compadable, ex. people that use bad language or have screaming kids.
What do you do? Or do they look at the age of my daughter then seat you with others?
On our Carnival cruise we were placed with another family that had children about the same age as ours. We got along well ... BUT if something like that happens and you are not happy, go to the Matrei d and see what can be done.
On our Celebrity, we asked for a table for 4 and got a table that would hold 6 but we were the only ones seated there.
We asked for a table for 4 this time around so we will see what happens.
I really would love to know who and when they make the seating arrangements.

I have a quick question on this, do they ask you when you check in about sharing a table? Or is this something we should mention. Since thereis 4 of us (2 children) I thought we would just sit at a table only for 4. We will be sailing on Carnival Legend in march.
Usually taken care of at booking, they ask us each time we cruise if we want a large or small dining table along with early or late seating, we love our TA.
Definitely have your travel agent request a smaller table as soon as possible so that you might be accommodated at the table just for your family. No guarantees but they'll acccommodate you if they can.
Smooth sailing,

there are no guarantees on tablemates if you request to be seated at a large table (8-10). If you find that you are not compatable with your tablemates, go to the Maitre D and ask to be switched to a table with another family, he will do his best to accomodate your needs.
We just came off the Mariner and there were 5 of us (4 adults and a 2 yr old). Initially we were assigned a table of 12 (I almost died-no way was my 2 yr old going to sit through a dinner when 12 had to be served)! Turns out we were reassigned our own table (8 top I believe) but we had it to ourselves. Last year on Navigator we also had our own table with an empty seat. I think if you requested ahead of time to be seated with another family they will do their best to do so. If you end up not liking your tablemates, you can request a change the first night (do it fast) but there are no guarantees that they will move you. We lucked out on our first cruise with a great family. Thankfully if they arrived late, our servers went ahead and took our orders. When you have a little one, getting through meals quickly can be a blessing!
For those travelling on Carnival Legend, there is a "private diningroom" just off the main diningroom where we were assigned. It had only about 8 tables in it so the noise level was much less than the main diningroom so if you can ask for that area. I believe our table number was 262 but not positive. The room had 4 or 5 large tables for 8 people and a bench seating area broken up into tables of 4.
