door decorations
does anyone here do any door decorating for their cabins? i think my children would really enjoy having cabin being made special. we are sailing on the rhapsody of the seas and i was wondering if the doors are metal because i was going to use magnetic paper. i would love to hear of anyone else's ideas!

Re: door decorations
Good Question JustMary! I have read on these boards where someone mentioned the door being metal but didn't say which line. I love the idea of decorating the door, it will help the kids find which one is theirs faster. Plus, I'd rather do it myself then pay sooo much for RCL to do it..
FYI ~ Michael's craft store has Duct tape in a variety of shocking colors! |
Re: Re: door decorations
This is new to me, but I'm a first time cruiser so everything is new to me! Do people actually decorate their doors on cruises or pay the cruise line to do it for them? That's a new one on me. Might be kind of fun though. I'm a stamper/scrapbooker, so I'd certainly have enough stuff on hand!
Thanks! Adrian |
Re: door decorations
I've decorated our door just for my daughter's birthday. Brought my own balloons and streamers.

Re: door decorations
Our friends were going on the eaxact same cruise as us but two sailings after us. What they did for us is they went to party city and got this paper palm tree that would be used as a party decoration for like a Hawaiian party. We taped it to the door and it was really easy to find the room. My aunt and uncle always take window cling and but them on there balcony. Adds a little flair to it.

Re: door decorations
I have also used this window cling to decorate our mirros in our stateroom with whatever holiday we happen to be in. I have also brought my littlest daughter's art works that she had done from school and tape and taped it to our window. When we were bording the ship from differrent ports, people were always commenting on how beautiful her Thanksgiving turkey was that was hanging in our window (our room was just one floor above and like 5 over from the tender entrance! Madi really enjoyed all the extra complements and it saved it from getting thrown away at home.

Re: door decorations
We bought a bunch of glitter pipe cleaners and wound them thru the mailbox that hangs outside each door. We also bought lots of those little christmas lights that are battery operated. Those also decorated the mailbox and our balcony window.
My son made a pretty good likeness of a Carnival ship (funnel and all) out of red, white and blue duct tape. It was nice to be able to spot our door all the way down the hall! It was amazing how many crew members stopped us to tell us how much they liked our door. dorothy |
Does anyone know what type of doors are on the Valor?
What a great idea. Would be a great surprise for the kids to come back and find the room door decorated. Also, this sailing will be in celebration of my 40th birthday and might be fun to decorate. Thanks for the help. |

We leave Friday for our Christmas/New Years (my bday) cruise. Since we have kids, it just wouldnt be Christmas without a tree and their stockings. I precut wrapping paper to wrap their gifts once on board. I bought those plastic stick on tab hangers that pull off easily to hang the stockings. I found a lace curtain with a Christmas tree/etc decorations and lights which I will hang on a wall. I also have window clings for the balcony door, and a Santa sign for our cabin door. I was going to get some snowflake lights, but wouldnt have any room in my power strip to recharge my things!

easy door decorations
Since the doors are metal we went to the dollar store (we live in Canada) and bought 4 sheets of magnetic "paper" that is sticky on one side. Then my 9 year old daughter downloaded pictures of Alaska, animals, etc and for each day she made a 'fridge magnet' and put a new one on our door until at the end of our Alaskan cruise there were 9. It was a great conversation started, easily identified our stateroom for both her and her new friends and it gave her something to look forward to every day. We will do the same for our upcoming Carribbean cruise March 18 on Sun Princess out of Ft. Lauderdale. Linda
