Can you please let me know if a bunk is suitable i.e large enough for a 15 year old to sleep in. Does the bunk hang over the floor beds, does this give a feeling of being claustrophobic.
Thank you
I can only speak of Carnival. Yes, your 15 year old will be fine in the bunks. They do hang over the floor beds.....I just told my son not to jump down on us in the middle of the night. We sailed on 2 cruises in outside quad staterooms. On our last cruise, we booked 2 inside staterooms, side by side, on the lowest deck. It was nice to have the extra space and it didn't cost much more than getting one room. We didn't miss the window too much either, as we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. Just a thought.
I just got back from a Carnival cruise and we had bunkbeds. I was in the room with three kids - 12, 13 & 14. We were very comfortable.

Sturrock...your 15 year old should have no problem...when we went with a group of 20 of us one of the rooms were for the older grandchildren...and my son 6 ft 220 lbs..and my niece 6 ft dont know how much she weighs lol...had the top bunks and they had no problems ...except when they had to crawl up there after a few drinks and some rough seas lol...but like I told them...thats the price they have to pay lol...
We had a great trip and I am going to write a review, hopefully this weekend. We didn't get back until Monday and my kids started school on Tuesday and trying to catch up at work has left very little free time.

Sturrock what ship are you sailing on? each one has different configurations.
On Princess - the Golden to be specific our son who is 6'1" tall with very long legs was more comfortable in the bunk bed as opposed to the sofa bed.
He will be fine...we have done it with two kids several times and with teen daughter last year..This year we are getting the mini suite...she has the couch bed...she was not crazy about the bunk..last trip we lost the stabilizers on the last night and she got sick..as did most of us..The extra room will be nice and it only cost us about five hundred more than the balcony quad...cheers
On the 3 Carnival ships I've been on, the bunk bed did NOT hang over the floor bed, but hung over the sofa. My 6 foot 15 yo had previously slept in the bunk (and liked it better), but this trip we only had a triple, so he slept on the sofa. He pronounced the bunk MUCH more comfortable.
