Default cruising out of NY

We are planning a trip out of ny for 2007 anywhere between April and July. Is there any advice as to what ships are good for kids? ALso what type of room should we consider? It will be 2 adults my 4 year old and 7 month old.
How rough is the water out of NY?

There are many choices these days out of NYC to the Caribbean: Holland America, Princess and NCL. Friends of mine took their 6 and 9 year olds to the CAribbean on NCL's Norwegian Dawn and loved it. Good ship for kids with extensive water slide play area.

Smooth sailing,

We're taking the NCL Spirit out of NY next April, It's definately a good one for it's price.

The Spirit is a lovely ship and it has a lot to offer for kids and adults. Check out Buccaneer Bay on the back of the ship... very cool! Also, NCL sometimes runs promos that let kids sail free out of NYC. I'm surre the Dawn would be nice too.

In addition to sailing to the Caribbean from NYC, you can also cruise to Bermuda (from NYC or NJ for Royal Caribbean) or even to Coastal Canada via Carnival's 4 and 5-day cruises. I think you should first decide itinerary -- be it Caribbean, Bermuda or Canada -- and then look at kid friendly lines. If you have an infant, you might be best with Carnival to Canada or Caribbean since they have some limited group babysitting hours or Royal Caribbean (Bermuda and some sporadic Caribbean) since RCI has private in cabin babysitting for those one year and older as well as Fisher Price Aqua Babies which is a 45-minute daily session for infants and toddlers (parents must accompany child).

Smooth sailing,

Default NYC area cruises

There are a great deal of options from this area now.
You've got Carnival and Norwegian from NYC
Princess/Cunard from Brooklyn
and Royal Caribbean and Celebrity from Bayonne, NJ

My recommendation for kid friendly cruising is
Royal Caribbean 1st choice; best kid's programming.
Carnival- 2nd choice
Norwegian/Princess - tied for 3rd choice.

*1 important thing I would highly recommend against is a Canada/New England cruise. These itineraries generally have an older crowd, less children. Just a friendly tip.

The water isn't too bad on trip south, but can be a bit rough coming northbound. The captain's are always good at steering away from rough waters.

I've sailed from NYC area 4 times, and do fine with it.

Thanks and best of luck.
