Mediterranean cruise with a 3 year old?

We are considering a mediterranean cruise with our will be then 3 year old DS. We would be flying from the US and probably into Barcelona and going in Aug. or Sept. Undecided between NCL Jewel and RCCL Voyager of the Seas. What are the kids programs like on these ships? Is there anything for a 3 year old to do? I'm beginning to see a lot of negative posts about taking young children on this type of cruise. Are there no children? Any advice would be great!
Thanks

You're likely to find very few children that young on a Mediterranean itinerary.

Mediterranean itineraries are generally VERY port intensive, and in most cases the sights of interest are also some distance from the port - requiring fairly long bus or train rides to get there.

While some may disagree, I'd save this type of cruise for a few years.

I know this a very old post, but did you end up going on the cruise? How did it go? We are considering the exact same thing this March on Norwegian Jade.
