We have travelled with children but not yet on a cruise. Just wondering a few things about travelling with a 10 month old. He will be at the age between baby food and table food. Can anyone tell me if they had to bring food in jars or could you mostly make due with what was served in the dining rooms? I have heard that they will puree foods. Is this true? Also, if we are bringing baby formula would it be okay to bring powder and use the water on the ship or can you bring on bottled water? Do the cooler boxes in the stateroom keep things like baby food and/or formula cold enough?

I have cruised with my 10 month old granddaughter, who was also in between table and baby food. We brought some baby food (those available in plastic), but she ended up eating mostly table food. The waiter brought her a plate of broccoli, pasta with cheese, and a fruit plate every night. Her food came out before ours did, keeping her happy and eating nutritious food first while she was hungry. She then was given her fruit and bits of bread while the adults ate. The pre-packaged baby food was good to have for shore excursions.

I would have no problem using the ship's tap water to mix formula. If the refrigerator in your cabin is not cold enough, put some ice in a small bowl or large cup in which to store food or a bottle of mixed formula. Stored in the refrigerator, the ice will last quite a while and you don't need to wonder, if the temp in the frig is cold enough.

I brought pre made, pureed baby food when my son was that age just in case. At least these days there is plenty of it in plastic for easier traveling than glass. I use only bottled water (can buy big bottles from the bar aboard ship) for my kids when aboard ship.

Most mini frigs are cooling boxes so they're great for keeping water cold but I wouldn't want to keep formula or dairy in them overnight. I always brought powdered formula when cruising and just mixed it with bottled water as needed.

I've written an article, "Bringing the Baby" which would be helpful for you to read. It's on the main family cruise page of this site.

Smooth sailing,
