Am a single mom w/ 12 yr old daughter and thinking of cruising over spring break in April '08. I'm overwhelmed by the options! Am thinking of 3-5 days to Caribbean. I've cruised multiple times but my daughter never has. She is very mature for her age and not sure she'll want to do the camp thing ...
I would suggest Royal Caribbean or NCL. Both are going to offer activities outside of camp that would interest you & her. They both would likely have other kids her age cruising then & they offer things like teen dance club (what 12 yr old girl would not want to hit the dance floor).
NCL is more casual while RCCL is more traditional. Most ships in both lines have rock walls. NCL some have bowling allies. Both lines offer 3-5 day cruises. I have been on NCL's Pearl & the price was good, the ship was new, and it is colorful & fun. I have also been on RCCL Magesty of the Seas (older ship) but like the traditional seating & formal night.
Yes, both good suggestions. WIth NCL, the teen program starts for those 13 years and older while on RCI, it's 12 to 14 year olds grouped together. You use your judgement whether she'd feel more comfortable -- since she's 12 -- with kids at NCL or teens w/RCI.
