Hi,
We are first time cruisers looking at booking on Carnival Triumph (or one of their other ships) for January.
We have a 3 and 5 year old. Is it realistic that we could all fit in one room, or are their family rooms a better bet? I can't find much info on what the sleeping arrangements are for that room type.
We're considering connecting rooms, but I think they might be a little young to be in their own room. I'm worried about them opening their room door without us knowing.
You should be ok with kids that age. You would not be able to put them in a cabin by themselves anyway due to their ages, but you could buy 2 cabins adjoining and use one for sleeping and one for living in. Its a lot more expensive that way.
We took our 4 year old on the Fascination in May 08. It was cramped with 3 of us. However the rooms on the Fascination are much smaller than the Triumph. (was on that in 2006) With your children being that small I think one room will be just fine. As a matter of fact in Nov 09 we will be taking our DD (5) and our DS (almost 3) in one room on the Pride. We will have a couch that pulls out to sleep one and an upper bunk (they fold up during the day). I am not concerned at all.
What ever you decide Good Luck and Enjoy!

Yes, we've done it many times. On Triumph it should be fine. We sailed her with four of us in a Balcony stateroom. It worked fine. We have also done connecting staterooms and if you are concerned about the kids escaping, just get a stick on alarm the sell in hardware stores, that sounds if the door is open. Just be certain to turn it off during non-sleeping times so you don't scare your room steward to death.
