Who's booked for a 2009 family cruise?

Greetings to all CruiseMates.com family message board readers!

I know it's a tentative time economically right now, but I was wondering who is considering -- or who has -- booked a family cruise for 2009.

Let me know via this message board what you've booked for 2009 -- or if you need some answers prior to making your final decision.

Smooth sailing,

I just booked a mediterranean cruise (see other post) on Norwegian Jade in March, but still unsure if this is a good idea with our three year old (he travels well, but I just want to make sure the kids programs and facilities will be good).

family time

I'm booked with four generations. From 3years to 74 years. The first time cruise for everyone but myself and my husband. We are on the Carnival Splendor Jan 17. We are also going with two church groups.
Lots of family fun.

We're doing a Western Med. cruise in a couple of weeks and doing the back to back Blogger's cruise in Feb. and the 14 day NCL Jewel Repo Cruise from NYC to Miami Oct. 30

Can't wait woohoo!

mgt November 3rd, 2008 12:09 PM

We want to book for a week in Feb, not sure what line to do. Kids are 7 and 11, I don't want Disney, Carnival or Royal Carribean, we want to try something new.

My family and I are booked for April on the NCL Spirit out of New Orleans, we live in Texas so this time we decided to use a port nearer to home. Normally we go out of Florida, but the flights have gotten to be more trouble with all of the delays and cancellations this time we thought a 3 hour flight sounds much better then a 7 hour flight. This is our first time to try NCL.

lfgaynor November 6th, 2008 09:54 PM

To mgt: Why don't you try a Costa cruise? Their Caribbean fares usually offer "kids sail free" w/2 paying adults so it's a good deal. My kids enjoyed Costa when we sailed about 2 years ago and I liked the int'l atmosphere.

To Camille B:
Your 3 year old should be fine on NCL. I checked out their youth programming recently and found it very good and caring. They take kids as young as 2 years old so you're all set.

We are sailing on the Carnival Splendor Jan 17th. It is my first outing as an agent, so I will be sailing with my immediate family (9 members) and members of two churches that we attend, 58 people traveling together.
Sound like alot of fun. Both church groups have cruised before, a really great time of fun and fellowship.

Carnival Victory

Hi all, I am booked on the Carnival Victory in Feb. However we are picking it up in Barbados and staying on board until they dock at Barbados again a week later. It was a deal via Virgin Holidays, however am now getting slightly anxious as want to know if I will then miss the any of the formal nights.

Plus I am travelling with my six-year-old and my then 16-month-old - please can anyone give me tips on what to do to keep things simple, plus when I was on RCI two-years ago I used the free seasick tablets from sick bay as UK tablets are nowhere near as strong as USA ones nor effective - didn't need them for long just day or two.

I would really appreciate any help esp as Carvinal v new to us as only ever cruised RCI before.

Thanks Nicky

I suggest buying sea bands either in a drug store (CVS in US) prior or in the ship's shop when you get on board. They are great for kids b/c there's no drugs -- just pressure points to help calm seasickness.

Just making sure you know that on Carnival, they take little ones 2 years and older in the youth program. They do however allow those under 2 years to come for child care on port day mornings and also after 10 p.m. on most evenings. They usually have some type of bedding for them to sleep on during late hours.

Hope this helps!

You mentioned about this being tentative times economically. I guess this is NOT the best time to become an agent. I have had one successful soon to be cruise (25 cabins), now I am scared. But I believe it is the best value for the money. I wish you a wonderful family trip. We are all counting down for ours. I think My 74 year old parents are starting to get excited, but we haven't got my mom on that ship yet!

My granddaughter told me she got a new dress for the trip, she is 3 ,and she said the boat was bigger than my house," do you want to come mamaw.?"

Princess has a good kids' program for your 3.5 year old. Is he/she potty trained? It's a must for the youth program.

You'll enjoy the food on Princess too.

Glad to see the responses to my email query.

The last three posters are/were going on Royal Caribbean. I'm
curious to see why you chose RCI. (They have a great youth/teen program for sure!)
