Hello - we are going on the Pride out of Baltimore in November. Cold I know, but just the begining and end. We are taking our 3 and 5 year old. We would like to go to the Space Center. Does any one know the cost difference between using Carnival and going on our own? I thought of doing it on our own in case the kids get cranky, we can leave. Any help would be appreciated. Also stopping in Freeport and Nassau - things to do with kids?? Thanks so much!!

Since this is a port of call for your cruise, you may want to check into how much time you have there. If its somewhat limited, I'd go with the cruiseline, they will wait on you if there is a delay. If you are on your own, basically, you are on your own. The tour does take some time and quite a bit of a bus ride, at times it could not hold the interest of the kids?? Most of it is very interesting.
Thanks for the reply Donna - I had taken the time issue into consideration. However, if I remember correctly I think we have 10 hours in port. So I don't really think that is an issue. Have you done this recently, on your own, the cost? Thanks again!

I was raised there, dad worked at Cape Canaveral and we took our sons when they were 4 1/2 and 7. They were fine but personally I think a 3 & 5 y/o are too young to understand and enjoy. It isn't that far from the ship and if the ship is there long enough, you could do it on your own and take a cab but like Donna said, you are on your own.

The tour itself was a couple of hours and there would be travel time in there as well. As long as it started soon after you get there, you should be OK...I'd do a little more homework and see what the travel time is and exactly how many hours for the tour, otherwise I'd still want go to with a ship tour, but that's just me.
CA Cruiser - It has been many years (since elementary school) that I was to the space center. I didn't really think about the kids being too young. Good point may need to re-think this. Thanks!

We have been to the space centre a few times when our kids were at various stages. While you know your kids better than anyone else, I know our kids were really too young to enjoy the whole day at the space centre. Some things were very cool and they enjoyed them very much, other times, one of us was with a small child in the grass outside trying to pass the time. When our kids were older (8 and over) they greatly enjoyed the majority of the space centre. Hope this helps.
