Excursions with Baby

Hi-
We're taking our (will be then) 15 month old on the Carnival Paradise. The ship stops in Catalina Island and Ensenada. I'm concerned about what to do with a baby. I don't want to hire a taxi because of safety and car seats. Are there any beaches/ shopping districts, etc. nearby that we can walk to with the stroller? Or is it worth it to bring the car seat (which I really don't want to!)

Also, I've seen lots of posts about bringing your own kiddie pool to let baby swim in. Has this worked for anybody? I think its a great idea to let the baby feel included. Any other advice on cruising with a baby?

I saw several pictures of babies in thier blowup pools who were very happy.

I have not been to that port but I'm sure several people here can help you out.
