Default couple of q's

hello I have no idea what I am getting myself into. I was asked to go on a cruise by my uncle that is paying for it all to go with my grandmother and I said sure why not. Now I am falling apart because I have no idea what to pack or anything. Please any info would be greatly appreciated. Also I am feeling a little insuqure because I am overweight and wondering if I am going to look like a whale on it or if there are all types and sizes on these cruises. Thank you dearly Melissa

First of all, just relax. A cruise ship is full of every type, size & age of passengers. As to what to pack??? It depends on where you are cruising. You might tell us what ship & destination you are sailing and I am sure someone will be able to give you a few ideas of what to pack. A cruise is just so relaxing. Even for formal nights you do not need a 'gown'. Just wear what makes you feel comfortable. You will see people who are dressed to the 'nines' but it is not necessary that you do the same. Many ladies wear silk slacks with a blouse and jewelry, scarfs, etc. to formal nights. Many men wear dark suits. Guys don't have to wear a tux. And, again it all depends on the ship and destination. Just have a great time and enjoy your cruise. I am sure you will get lots of suggestions from the message boards, but the bottom-line is that you should just 'be yourself' and enjoy.......

Hi, Melissa ...

First of all, don't worry about your weight. I have a friend who is quite heavy and her attitude is, "If you don't like it, don't look at it."

She has recently been wearing some clothes that I think would be absolutely perfect for cruising. The name of the line is "Flax". It's supposed to look wrinkled (!) and she said she packed for a 10-day vacation with one dress, two pair of capris, two tops, and a jumper. It rolls up, she says, for easy packing. She also has another dress that is extremely lightweight which works as nightshirt, beach coverup, whatever.

The outfits are mix and match and I think they are quite flattering for what my pal calls the "generous" figure. The fabrics are really cool.

She's bought most of her stuff on e-bay but she says to try angelheart.com as well.

What I would take for the formal nights would be a silk pants and tunic outfit with some hot costume jewelry. The "Flax" would do for both casual and informal nights, especially if you were to wear the dress with a nice scarf or interesting jewelry.

Don't forget your bathing suit!

You will have a great time.

Melissa,
Here is a link to some great info for first time cruisers, should help answer a lot of your questions. Just go and relax and join any activities that interest you, don't be shy, you'll have a great time :-)

During the day, just wear shorts or what you are comfortable in, you only need to dress up for dinner in the dinning room, which is also great fun.
