Default first time cruise

I have been reading the message boards before going on a first time cruise in December.I have read about the smell on board ship when traversing the hallways. Is this all ships or just the one I have been reading about[the Maasdam]?

I really am not sure what you are refering to Margery? I have been on 15 cruises so far and the only time I noticed anything that 'smelled funny' was on the Norway down in the lowest deck 9in the interior and that was basically a 'damp' smell. Remember that that particuliar ship is over 50 years old as well and really should stink but it doesn't.

Hi Margery,
So far I've never smelled anything weird while cruising, not sure what exactly you are referring to. Any way, in case you haven't read through the section here for a first cruisers, here is the link, some great tips to ensure you cruise is wonderful:

Hi, Margery and Welcome !!!

The only time I've ever smelled anything funny on a ship was on Marco Polo and it was just sort of an "old" smell. I begged several bars of soap from the cabin steward and used them as air fresheners.

You've got me thinking now. The amount of daily cleaning that goes on aboardship ... and I don't think I've ever noticed any obvious smell of cleaning chemicals. Hmmm.
