Am cruising in 3 days!!! and stopping in the Caymans and Cozumel. My brother and some friends want me to bring back some rum and Kahlua and I was wondering does anyone know approximately how much the stuff costs and is it a lot cheaper in the Carribbean than here at home? They're all giving me money to purchase the stuff and pay duty on it, just needing to know a ballpark figure. Any input would help. Thanks
There is a DFS in the shopping center at the piers in Coz. A better selection than you'll find on the ship, but the prices aren't that different. If you're just looking for plain old Bacardi, it's easier to get it on the ship than schlep it around.
I bought an unusual, high-end rum in the DFS last month just to see if the ship would confiscate it ... I think it was $7. We also bought four one-liter bottles of DeWar's Scotch for less than $60 on the ship.
The cheapest place I've seen Kahlua is at Los Cinco Soles in Coz.
We declared all the hooch and the Customs guy just stamped the form, smiled, and said, "Buy more next time."
