Would anyone recomend staying in a hotel the night before cruising? Why or why not?

This is actually what my family & I will be doing next Sat. We sail on the Maasdam, Holland America Line, @ 5pm on Sun. the 16th. We have reservations at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, our favorite hotel in the city. It's located only a short distance from Port Everglades. We will pack an overnight bag for the three of us, with a swimsuit for enjoying the wonderful pool there, and the outfit we'll wear for embarkation. This will be what we'll wear for dinner the first night (as you never know when your bags will arrive in your cabin after you board).

We just don't want to rush the morning of the cruise to drive down, as we live on the c east central coast of Florida. Our daughter's 14th birthday is the day we plan to spend at the hotel. Also, all hotel guests receive a fully cooked to order breakfast at no extra charge, which is a nice benefit. We plan on making that day one of relaxation and enjoyment, with great anticiapation of what's to come!!

Let me know what your family decides. I think it's a great idea, and a wonderful way to begin such a wonderful family vacation! Have a great cruise, and by the way, when do you sail & to where?

Yes.. much better than staying in the park, or a car! (SORRY, I just couldn't resist).

It's always better to go into the port of departure city a day early. You avoid possible weather delays, and the best part... you start your vacation early.

Were cruising on the Grandeur of the Seas on July 14th. It goes to Mexico. Unfortunately, we havent recieved the info of the cruise in the mail yet because we used skyauction.com, and we dont know where the port is so we cant book a hotel.

Happy Sailing!
