Default Checking in at the pier

I've read that it's a good idea to give the longshoremen a good tip to insure that bags get onboard early.....also that from noon to one they will be at lunch...so plan on dropping off bags before or after that time. Can someone advise what would be considered a "good" tip for two people with 2 bags? Thanks for your help...we're first timers and pretty green on the in's and out's.

I usually tip $2 per bag, and that usually nets me a porter pretty quickly. I also found if it's really busy, I put the cash in my hand, and they are like moths to a flame.

Hope that helps,
Harry

Hi Liz,
Have arrived at the pier at different times and never saw a lack of porters there to take the bags, just have some dollars handy, like Harry mentioned :-)

Hi, Liz ...

What really attaches is how quickly the on-board people (who would never see any part of that tip) get moving.

$2 per bag is about right.
