Default Cabins and rates

Hi all -

I'm really confused now.

This is my first time looking seriously into booking a cruise. I'm using the internet to get an idea of what I'm looking at though I'll probably go through a travel agent when the time comes...especially if I get as confused as I'm doing.

This morning I went in ORBITZ and looked at a 4-day Baja Mexico cruise in Jan 2004.
I found some great rates (as far as I can tell) but it looks like they are charging different rates for the same cabins. Example:

I looked at the $369 pp oceanview, cat 6B and up comes the Empress deck with 10 cabins available.

I looked at the$399 pp oceanview, cat 6C and up comes the Empress desk with the same 10 cabins available.

So, one more time, I checkout the $429 pp ocean view, cat 6D, and guess what I get? The Empress deck with the same 10 cabins listed.

What is all this - am I reading something wrong?

Hi Suzi,
I know it can be very confusing pricing cruises. A lot depends on what cabin catagory and the time of year you want to go. I can see you already of some prices for certain ships. I'd suggest to try out "Bargain Finder" here at Cruisemates and see what else you can get, and lets hope it does not get any more confusing. You also have to make sure the taxes and port charges for each one, good luck!

I've had good success with this feature, hope you do too!

Hi, Suzi ...

You have ME confused, too !!!

Once again our Donna, Donna (she's so good we have to say her name twice) has some of the best advice going.

Check Bargain Finder and see what comes up then, for a first cruise, find a truly reliable travel agent.

Most travel agents will meet or come very close to Internet prices.

Thanks all - I appreciate the advice and will check with a travel agent when I get ready to book.

Now, one last question and I'll shut up....

what exactly is the difference between a 6B cabin and a 6D cabin? What constitutes an upgrade? (ok, that was two questions......)

thanks again,
